FYHP Coaches -
It sounds like we had another good Saturday night of 3v3 hockey. From what I hear, we had about 35-40 skaters for the first session, and about 20 for the second session.
I was able to connect with the Board yesterday, and there are some small things we want to emphasize:
1) 3v3 is ONLY for FYHP registered skaters. It's a liability issue for the program, and since it's free, we don't want to take ice away from FYHP skaters. So please, when you communicate with your teams - please tell them it's only for members of FYHP. Non-FYHP skaters will be turned away
2) 14U skaters CAN NOT join the first session, and 10U skaters CAN NOT join the second session. It doesn't matter if there are siblings or friends playing - we're keeping the ages split to promote fairness and safety. Please don't be difficult - respect the rules. 12U skaters can skate with both sessions - a benefit of being a peewee skater in FYHP. They get to challenge our 10us, and be challenged by our 14us. Coaches are charged with removing skaters who do not fit into the specific age group.
3) Let's do our best to keep it 3v3 cross ice. If there's a scenario where we have only two goalies, the recommendation is still to keep it 3v3 cross-ice. The reason is, 3v3 is a different skillset than full ice. So we should be aiming to do that, even if it means the other half of the ice is unused.
Unfortunately I am in a tournament this weekend, and have a 5:20 game, so I will again be missing this week's 3v3 (you can understand why I prefer 3v3s rather than team practices on the weekend!). If I can have a volunteer to run the first session (5:10 - 6:00, 10U and 12u) and the second session (6:10 - 7:00, 12u and 14u) - I would appreciate it. Huge thanks to Coaches Mark and Tim for leading this past weekend's session - without people stepping up, we can't facilitate what should be a great, fun event for the skaters of this program.
In December, I'm going to send out a new survey, asking for feedback from teams and parents. I like the numbers we're seeing with events like this, and I think it's better than having a late-night Saturday practice after games, but we want to ensure people are seeing value out of it.
So in recap: I need some volunteers for Saturday, only FYHP skaters are allowed to participate, respect the age groups in each time slot, and the goal is to keep it a small area 3v3.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon! And if I don't, have a great Thanksgiving. We have an incredibly strong program right now at all levels, and that doesn't happen without the support and selflessness of all our coaches.
Best,
Casey & Eric
